Reporting to the Vice President of Communications and serving as a member of the United Technologies corporate communications management team, the Senior Manager of Social Media will be responsible for the development and execution of social media initiatives to advance the reputation of the company with key stakeholders. Specific responsibilities include overseeing content creation and on-line execution of social media campaigns to support the marketing, public relations, community affairs and public policy efforts of the company. Other responsibilities include:
Day-to-day supervision of the existing social media accounts and UTC branded on-line communities to ensure both audience engagement and message alignment.
Regularly evaluate and provide recommendations as to UTCs (i) on-line tracking and monitoring capabilities to ensure the earliest possible identification of reputational threats arising from social media generated content worldwide, and (ii) ability to engage in and leverage social media channels as part of its crisis communications planning efforts.
Establish and lead a cross functional company working group to: (i) make recommendations with respect to UTCs employee social media policies balancing all relevant legal and IT security risks; (ii) identify and develop new ways to leverage relevant social media techniques to support employee engagement and other company initiatives; and (iii) share best practices and collaborate on efforts to influence relevant third-parties within the social media channels.
Working with this cross functional team, establish company-wide guidelines for social media platforms.
Produce a monthly UTC social media report to drive awareness of oppornities to leverage social media and highlight best practices across the company.
Analyze and make recommendations on emerging social media and digital trends, tools, applications and channels and their potential impact on the company brand and reputation.
Work with UTCs PR agencies to support training of business unit /corporate staff on social media best practices, trends and new technologies and services.
Bachelors degree in communications, public relations, or related field required. Masters degree preferred.
4-6 years in corporate communications or similar field with experience in (i) planning, managing and executing social media initiatives across different Social Media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest etc.); (ii) leveraging social media management and analytics tools (HootSuite, Visible Technologies, Radian 6 and Crimson Hexagon) and (iii) working knowledge of the principles of SEO including keyword research. The ideal candidate must also have excellent writing skills and the ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in a video/digital format. As this position involves significant cross-function coordination, the ideal candidate must have demonstrated team experience and the ability and confidence to take the lead and guide other employees when necessary.
